Helen is an experienced and fully qualified counsellor, accredited play therapist, supervisor and trainer. She is a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and a Full Member of the British Association of Play Therapists. She offers supervision for play therapists, counsellors and teaching staff.

Helen’s qualifications include a PhD in Counselling and Psychotherapy, an MA in Counselling Practice, a Diploma in Play Therapy, an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology and BA in Education. Her doctorate research took place at a shelter home for families affected by homelessness and violence in Curitiba, Brazil. The title of her research study was ‘Intensive Filial Therapy with Brazilian Mothers and their Children, Victims of Family Violence’.

With a person-centred and Gestalt background, she works creatively, offering different mediums to suit each client’s needs. One of her key passions is the use of play and creative mediums to help clients and supervisees engage with and explore issues, themes and processes pertinent to their experience and so develop their self-awareness and understanding.

Helen had an earlier career in education and is able to employ a variety of non-threatening strategies suitable for teenagers and children. Helen has worked as a play therapist in both mainstream and special schools, a college of further education and in private practice.

Helen has taught as lecturer on both Masters and undergraduate courses in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Helen can also offer therapy in Portuguese.
